The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences（AIAS）による「D.I.C.E. Awards」がラスベガスで開催されていた「D.I.C.E. Summit 2015」の中で発表され、「最優秀レーシングゲーム」を含む3部門で任天堂ソフトが賞を受賞したことが明らかになりました。
ファミリーゲーム部門ではノミネートすらされなかった任天堂ソフトですが、任天堂が2014年の柱として送り出した2本のソフトが質の面でも評価され、DICEアワードの部門賞を受賞。
『大乱闘スマッシュブラザーズ for Wii U』は最終週対戦格闘ゲームを、『マリオカート8』は最優秀レーシングゲームを、『大乱闘スマッシュブラザーズ for Nintendo 3DS』は最優秀携帯機向けゲームを受賞しました。
最多受賞は『Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor』で8部門。年間最優秀ゲーム（Game of the Year）には『Dragon Age: Inquisition』が選ばれています。
