E3 2016 参加メディアが選ぶ、ショウを総括する Game Critics Awards の最終結果が発表され、任天堂が今年唯一プレイアブル出展したゼルダシリーズ最新作『The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild （ゼルダの伝説 ブレス オブ ザ ワイルド）』が Best of Show （総合ベスト）を含む3冠を達成しました。
2014年時点で、ゼルダ最新作はオープンワールドジャンルとなることが任天堂から発表されていたわけですが、2016年は遂にプレイアブルな状態となり、実際にその世界に没頭したメディア陣からはこの評価。“Best of Show”“Best Console Game”“Best Action/Adventure Game”の3部門を受賞しています。
最優秀スポーツゲームでは、毎年恒例のシリーズ最新作『FIFA 17』や『PES 2017』らを抑えて、 Ubisoft の新規オープンワールドエクストリームスポーツゲーム『Steep』が受賞。複数作品続続くシリーズの正統進化ももちろん素晴らしいことですが、よりチャレンジングな姿勢が評価される結果となりました。
